The third eye chakra, otherwise known as the ‘ANJA CHAKRA’ is the 6th chakra that acts as a bridge between the real world and realms of inner consciousness. The third eye is said to be located in the middle of the forehead slightly above where the eyebrows meet, which represents the enlightenment one achieves through meditation. It is a beautiful crystal blue or purple. It is associated with the pineal gland that is located in the middle of the brain that controls the sleep system of the body and remains as a centre for altering mystical perception. It’s positioned close to the optical nerves, which results in a quick change of the mental state.
Throughout the past centuries, the centre of anything and everything has played a vital role in many scientific discoveries as well as religious discoveries. Like the centre of the earth, the centre of the universe and the centre of a human being, the centre of an atom, and many more which play importance in today’s belief system. Now, what does the third eye chakra do for us humans and what does it have anything to do with the universe?
Well for starters, how about I tell you that somehow through this third eye chakra, every natural being in this universe is connected? When we talk about the third eye, it’s about the enlightenment. A clear vision of how what when and why factors that a life situation holds. It is like the connection to the greatest unknown and a path to the secrets of the universe. The third eye connects every human’s divine aura to the cosmos which is what makes it fascinatingly spiritual.
The third eye chakra is associated with the archetypal dimensions, as well as the world of spirits. Awakening your third eye allows you to open up to a mental sensibility, inner perception and the inner capabilities. For example, during a crisis, when someone says,” I don’t know what to do!” they don’t mean it. Because the third eye already knows the answer to every problem and the answer is right in our heads, but because of fear, we fail to realize what’s needed and what’s right and seek others’ opinion. Therefore activating the third eye can lead to a clear consciousness where one can make decisions with confidence and certainty.
Now the third eye chakra, helps us connect to different forms of visions in our minds. These visions don’t usually have a clear verbal explanation since it’s blurry and mostly seems nonexistent, but with the help of deep focus and concentration, one can unlock the deepest visions and relax the eyes into a different way of seeing the world. We can see beyond the distractions and illusions that stand to reduce our efficiency and have more insight to live and create more deeply aligned with our highest good.
This chakra is associated with clairvoyance, pre-cognition, intrabody experiences, and the ability to see and recognize the auras of different forms. This means that our minds work faster than what the eyes can capture and devise a perfect coping system to handle the situation.
In ancient history, the third eye chakra is represented by two elements often associated with wisdom: the upside-down triangle and the lotus flower. Keeping this at stake, let’s see how one can open their third eye chakra.
A normal human being sees only what their brains want them to see. They focus only on one dimension since their birth hence has they grow older the brains learn to neglect and ignore the other dimensions. The third eye is closed since birth so that the two physical eyes will do their fair share in being able to see. So to open the third eye chakra, we need to reverse this process. But it isn’t as easy as it sounds…and again, who doesn’t like a good challenge? The process can become hard as we get a step closer to attaining the multi-dimensional vision. When we focus on ourselves, we tend to find out about our deepest traits, our fears, our strengths, our weakness, and if one is not ready to face their own shadow, their fear, they cannot move on to the next stage. When we concentrate on ourselves more, it is highly likely that that the cosmic aura gets interconnected with the energy of our third eye through perspectives, and intuitions and fear will be the 1st obstacle to cloud that judgment. So let’s get to the chase on how we can activate our third eye:
It is to have a proper spiritually oriented diet. One cannot be lethargic about what goes into the body because what we eat can affect the pineal gland so make sure you have a balanced healthy diet to keep your mind active and alert.
It is to lose dependence over the physical vision which is the two eyes. A dark enclosed space will help the pineal gland to secrete more melatonin which helps the brain to become more aware of the surrounding since it can no more depend on the eyes for vision. Find a comfortable sitting or standing position and start focusing on your breathing and make sure you breathe through your nose. Make you are breathing a bridge that connects the very dimension you’re based on to the dimensions that are beyond the body’s control.
While doing it, there will be many thoughts running through your head. Don’t stop them because then again you’re focusing on the thought which will distract you. So just let it be and concentrate on the breathing and the thoughts will find a way to fade on their own.
It is to relieve the tension around your neck, ears, and head region so the energy can flow through the nerves. Once you detach observation, your breathing will become slow and rhythmic. Now focus on the area of your forehead between your eyebrows and ponder over that area. Do not force any thoughts in or think whether it’ll work or not because those negative energy will disrupt the process. Continue doing this for few minutes regularly
Once the process you might feel a little pressure inside your head or a pulsating feeling. This is a good sign that your pineal gland has a healthy function and your third eye is awakening. Before going to sleep to when you’re idle, you might feel like the mind is sending you a lot of thoughts and images which is an indication that the third eye is awakened and you have started seeing the world in a different dimension other than the two eyes.
Healing stones play an important role in stimulating the energy of the chakras. Third Eye chakra is associated with your “sixth sense.” Home to your intuition, the Third Eye is associated with the color indigo.

Lord Shiva is the protector of mankind, however, the world knows lord Shiva as the “destroyer” and that is also true. Some legends explain the rage of Lord Shiva which almost destroyed the world. Lord Shiva has his third eye in the middle of his forehead and mostly remains closed. But when it opens, there will be chaos and ultimate destruction of all mankind. His right eye is considered to be the sun and the left eye is considered as the moon and his third eye represents fire, otherwise known as AGNI. His left and right eyes indicate his vision in the physical mortal world. Often Shiva is shown with half-open eyes, signifying the never-ending, ongoing nature of the birth and destruction of the universe.
The story goes that the Kama hid behind a tree and shot an arrow at Shiva’s heart. Shiva got a little disturbed. So he opened his third eye, which is a fiery eye, and burnt the Kama to ashes.
Shiva’s third eye signifies the destruction of the world of Maya which is the mystical world of evil. It is an eye of wisdom and knowledge which provides us with the strength to distinguish what is right and what is wrong and lead us to the right path in life.
